Casual restaurant concept has been broadly spread all across the USA.

Restaurants like Olive Garden and Red Lobster just prove that casual dining restaurant concept has found its audience in the States.

It’s one of the perfect restaurant concept examples that has its ups and downs in sales and we’ll explain later some reasons for that.

But first, a little introduction.

What is Casual Restaurant Concept offering

One of the main characteristics of a casual restaurant concept is a moderately priced menu.

Although it’s more expensive than fast food restaurants it still presents the fair ratio between price and service provided.

Casual dining restaurant offers full table service with non-disposable dishes, while the portion sizes are usually large without an adequate portion size control.

This restaurant concept implies a relaxed and casual atmosphere with a lot a seating in the dining room area.

Usually, they include a restaurant bar with full service and have a greater choice of beverages including wine menus.

The reason why they attracted so many customers is that they have wider meal selection such as soups, salads, pizzas, grilled steaks, different types of desserts, pasta etc.

One other factor to consider is that the restaurants can be thematic.

For instance, Olive Garden is serving most of the Italian food, while the Red Lobster is focused more on the see food customers.

It’s also important to notice the fact that the food in a casual restaurant is usually better prepared with ingredients of higher quality.

A reason more to visit to visit one of these restaurants rather than a fast food chain, especially if you’re on a healthy diet.

In the end, you’re going to eat a better-prepared meal in a more casual space.

However, due to the fact that the preferences of the customers are changing (and so is the market for them), fast casual restaurant concept is presenting a serious competition.

Another reason is that they’re offering the best of both concepts and that why they’re slowly stealing their customer base.

The food is still better than the one at a fast food restaurant (which comes with a greater price of course) and faster prepared than the one at a casual restaurant.

It seems that fast casual restaurants are expanding their market and increasing sales, but it’s a matter of time when the growth of such concept will come to an end.
