About Restaurateur News

Restaurateur News has been on the web in two earlier runs. It began in 2000 as The Restaurateur News, an online newsletter about restaurant profitability. From 2017 it ran as a restaurant-operator site covering operations, trends, marketing and finance. It then went quiet for several years.

The publication resumed in September 2026 with the same beat: the practical business of running an independent restaurant. We favor records over opinions, which means state license auction and lottery data, statute text, and code sections, each linked where it appears. The 2017 articles remain available below as they were first published, and are not updated.
